Help us Prevent the Preventable And Treat the Treatable To keep your Pet Healthy & Happy!
Its Spring! That also means that it is Heartworm Season. This is the time of year that most people bring their pets to the vet for one of their bi-annual complete physical exams, any needed vaccinations, and for dogs, an annual heartworm check.
This is the perfect time for a Wellness Profile. While our technicians are pulling blood for your dog’s annual Heartworm check, we recommend that you allow us to pull a slightly larger sample of blood and run a few tests.
Wellness Testing is also very important in cats! Even if your cat is not due for vaccines, they should have two complete physical exams and one Wellness Profile every year! Remember, our animals age much faster than we do! How old is your pet?
We will send this blood sample to our local lab and they will test for:
- Heartworm disease
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Anemia (low red blood cell count)
- Infection/Inflammation (low or high white blood cell count)
- Thyroid disease
We will receive the results on the Next Business Day, and will call you to discuss your animal’s health and any further steps that may need to be taken. Since we are using an outside lab for all of these tests, we can offer these packages to you at a substantial savings. There are three Wellness Profiles to choose from, your veterinarian can help you choose which profile is right for your pet.
At Brinker Veterinary Hospital we recommend Annual Wellness Profiles for any dog or cat 5 years of age and older. We also recommend obtaining a Baseline Wellness Profile in younger animals. This will give us your pet’s normal values and better enable us to catch diseases early on before they become life threatening!
